
About The Course
The English IGCSE course is a globally recognized qualification that aims to develop students' comprehension of language, punctuation, writing styles, literature, and the purpose behind writing. This course is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of language use, subject terminology, punctuation, and writer's purpose across a variety of text types. It will help students to familiarize themselves with different types of texts and develop analytical and evaluative skills. Throughout the course, students will be presented with various text types, including poetry, creative writing, and letters, to prepare them for the IGCSE exam. The assessment for this course comprises multiple-choice, research, and essay-based assessments. The course consists of 5 modules, and each module includes an assessment to reinforce students' knowledge and understanding. Overall, this course provides students with the opportunity to achieve an IGCSE qualification in a flexible and affordable manner while equipping them with the necessary skills to succeed in future studies.
Course Details
English Core Skills This module provides an introduction to the basic English skills that students will need in order to successfully complete the rest of the course. Although there are no specific questions on spelling and punctuation in the examination, students are expected to write good, grammatically correct English and punctuate and spell correctly. Reading Comprehension This module covers questions that are designed to assess reading comprehension (AO1: the ability to read with understanding and select information in an appropriate way from the passages). Questions will be asked on passages which are linked by their theme or subject matter. Writing to Specific Guidelines This module tests students’ ability to write in response to material that will appear on the examination paper, according to clear guidelines. Writing Reviews, Blogs, and Articles This module focuses on longer reviews and other forms of writing such as blogs and articles, rather than the shorter reviews found on sites like Trustpilot. Students will learn about the different formats and styles used in these types of writing. Writing Styles and Exam Preparation This module covers specific formats involved in transactional writing, including instructions, reports, letters, reviews, blogs, articles, and leaflets. It also provides exam preparation tips for students to succeed in their English IGCSE exam. |
If you want to take the English (Specification B Paper 1 Paper code: 4EB1/01) IGCSE exam, you should book your spot at an exam center approximately 6 months before the exam date. You can choose a private exam center or a school/college that is also entering their own students for the exam. Edexcel provides a list of exam centers that accept private candidates, but not every available center is included. If you can’t find a suitable center in your area, you should contact local schools and colleges directly. Please note that the exam fees are not included in the course cost and must be paid directly to the exam center. The fees will vary depending on the center you choose. |
