About The Course

The undergraduate health and social care course at levels 4 and 5 is a 240 credit program that is designed to expedite students' progress towards the final year of a related bachelor's degree in the health and social care discipline.. The final year of the degree can be completed on campus or via distance learning at a UK university. The modules and assignments at level 4 of the course are created to encompass the same topics and knowledge as the first year of a university degree program. On the other hand, the level 5 modules and assignments aim to cover the material and subject matter taught in the second year of the degree program. The program comprises of six modules and corresponding assignments at level 4 (120 credits) and five modules and assignments at level 5 (120 credits).. If a student opts to study only at level 4, they will obtain 120 credits and may apply for exemption from the first year of a university degree course. Each module in the course includes about 40 guided learning hours of material, as well as an extra 30-50 hours of optional learning material, which consists of recommended exercises, readings, and internet resources.

  • Academic Study Skills: This module aims to equip learners with the essential skills and knowledge to study effectively in higher education. It will help them develop reflective and critical thinking abilities needed to reach their learning potential.
  • Communication in Health and Social Care: This module aims to increase learners’ awareness of various communication methods used in health and social care settings and their significance in achieving effective service delivery.
  • Introduction to Healthcare Policy: This module aims to raise learners’ awareness of different influences on healthcare and how they shape policy development. By evaluating healthcare policy, learners will analyze key contemporary issues for policy-makers, providers, and recipients of support.
  • Reflective Practice: This module is designed to introduce learners to reflective practice in all its forms. Reflection on and in practice are vital concepts in health and social care, connecting theory with practice and promoting self-development.
  • Managing People in Health and Social Care: This module aims to enable learners to understand the recruitment, management, and development of people in health and social care workplaces. Learners will investigate the processes involved in managing individuals in such workplaces and how to facilitate change in the organization.
  • Sociology: Concepts in Health and Ill Health: This module aims to provide learners with an understanding of sociological concepts related to health and ill health and their application in health and social care practice. It will enable learners to comprehend the nature of contemporary society and its influence on the perception of health and ill health. Learners will explore how society is structured in terms of age, gender, ethnicity, social class, family, and households and how it impacts health and well-being.

 

Principles underpinning health and social care

  • The objective of this module is to foster comprehension of the principles, theories and regulations that serve as the foundation of health and social care practice, as well as the approaches that are in place to advance high-quality practices within the field.

The management of quality in health and social care

  • The concept of quality holds significant importance in the field of health and social care services, and its interpretation and perspectives can vary greatly. 

The aim of this module is to enhance learners’ comprehension of the various viewpoints on quality of health and social care services, and how it can be assessed to empower and engage service users.

Research project

  • The aim of this module is to develop learners’ skills of independent enquiry and critical analysis by undertaking a small pilot investigation of direct relevance to their higher education programme or professional development.

Partnership working in health and social care

  • This module is designed to help learners understand the significance of positive collaboration with others in the health and social care industry.. Learners will explore the nature of partnership on three levels, including partnerships with users of services, between different professionals within health and social care, and organizational partnerships.

Working with service users with complex needs

  • This unit aims to help learners understand issues of health, disability and illness, and how healthcare professionals can empower those with complex physical and mental health needs to determine their own care.

 

The diploma in health and social care offered by Qualifi at level 4/5 includes 6 written assignments at level 4 and 5 written assignments at level 5, with each assignment being approximately 2,000-3,000 words. To participate in the level 4 program, you must be 18 years old or older and have completed a full secondary education. To enroll in the level 5 course, you must have completed level 4 or an equivalent program.
